The Heaven And Hell Orchestra presents songs from the “Capitol of Satan” – the occult Berlin in the end of the 1920's. Gloomily seeming compositions of the british jazzbandleader Charles T. Goodhill which – decades later – should write history in the world of heavy metal…
At the infamous “HEAVEN & HELL” showroom, Goodhill and his orchestra were celebrated gloriously during the times of the great depression at the end of the Weimar republic, until he perished in Berlin in 1932 under mysterious circumstances. Goodhill was said to be the chief of a sect-like secret cult. Evening after evening he filled a hidden back room of the establishment with a willing audience to celebrate black masses and please his followers with his music. With songs like THE GAMBLER, THE BELL or MY WAY TO HELL Goodhill was deemed master of the so called “heavy music”, that contained lyrics about the dark side of the soul, tales of general evil and satan in particular…, before he was killed in april 1932 under unexplained circumstances.
Where the high society sex, intoxication and destruction indulged, where people sought refuge in paranormal and sensory science, there stood the birthplace of the so-called Heavy-Metal-Music Entertainment. Devilish embassies in shallow packaged tango, foxtrot- or humpa- rythms gained highest popularity before they were banned in the 1930s and fell into oblivion. About half a century later, well-known rock musicians took - inspired by Goodhill`s musical heritage (?) this genre again and helped him to international fame -.
Now finally these songs will be performed again in the original sound of Charles T. Goodhill by THE HEAVEN AND HELL ORCHESTRA
The band:
The Heaven And Hell Orchestra (“ The new club of the upcoming 20's scene in Berlin!” / BZ am Mittag) is a five member 20's Jazzband from the heart of Berlin! Singer and “Lord of MonoclePop” Daniel Malheur met Dirk Bewig, an excellent piano and organ player (THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION) to form The Heaven And Hell Orchestra. With the violinist Agata Gromek and doublebass player Mr. Kaspar Loyal from the Berlin Opera, who had already the honour to play with DEEP PURPLE on their concert “LIVE in Verona” in 2014, they engaged two excellent classical string players. Last but not least, Malheur and Bewig could thrill Mr. Stephan “Stoppel” Eggert known as drummer of the german rockband SELIG, the german Orchestra JAMES LAST and actually the drummer of LUCIFER`S FRIEND to join their devilish band. …and now: Welcome to MEPHISTOPOLIS!
