GLOWPEOPLE

"Glowpeople is an instrumental musical troupe – but, from time to time feature guest appearances from interesting folk we meet along the way. During regular wigged out sessions we improvise and mould grooves using bass, drums, guitar, trumpet and various electronic keys and samples. As well as a sense of adventure!

Many pieces are then sort of learned for repeating at gigs. But, even then, before the audiences, can veer off into unknown directions. Most recordings and pieces performed at gigs are totally unique and never to be repeated, though. We visit various genres as we stumble through riffs and respond to each others contributions. It might go funk. We might be in a collective reggae mood. Sometimes things get dark and go down-tempo – And, from time to time things can get pretty loud, intense and quite bewildering. Listen.

Weve played gigs and festivals throughout the UK and would dearly love to take the music further afield. To date, weve shared bills with Nik Turner, Daevid Allen, Here & Now, Kangaroo Moon, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Lene Lovich, Big Country, Jesus Jones, The Enid and many other festival scene legends.

So, let me introduce the other Glowpeople:

GlowpeopleHAPPENspin2
Robot Cossey
, the Wolverhampton based bass player Id jammed some crazy freeform jazz with a few years before. Id originally met him through my sister Hannah, with whom he played in Birmingham fusionists Electric Blanket. Hes been round the block a few times. And, is currently round the bend.

Chris Cordwell, a local friend whom Id met through the Church Stretton based band I played in back in 1995. He plays keyboards and does a lot of solo electronica, too.

Chris Hill, the trumpet player, is in fact, a multi-instrumentalist whos equally happy on drums, guitar or bass. Hes an old friend and bandmate of Robots.

Enjoy the ride."

"Our third album! And this time round well be releasing online through Little Struggling Ant Records of Sweden as well as with our Seattle friends Cosmic Primitive Records, who previously handled Things…and Happen…."

13631395_10154295281776197_2335053782450506288_nThis will be available in CD format, too! But only from the band / merchandise stalls at the gigs and festivals we have planned – and via mail order, through  Cosmic Primitive Records (USA) and, thanks to our strangely attired friends at Steampunk Records (UK) there will now be an eCommerce vendor, offering free shipping for the CD!! Get it while stocks last, as were only planning on a limited edition pressing. Incidentally, Cosmic Primitive still have download links and a few copies remaining of our previous albums, on CD; Things… Happen…

The release date has been slated for 8th August, 2016. Online streaming and download will be available at iTunes, Amazon, Muzioc, Spotify, Cosmic Primitive The Music and many other outlets. Stay tuned for updates to this page – or via our Twitter or Faceplace.
GlowpeopleForeverThe sleeve features a digital tessellation pattern illustration by Freddy Raybould. The faceted shapes and colours either jarring against or complimenting those around them kinda work the way the disparate beats and grooves do as one listens. They were created by pipetting the colours from a photograph into the shapes laid over a shot. Its chaotic yet somehow it all sits together. The CD format will also include photography by Duncan Graves. It is a shot from a recent gig that was augmented by the animated projections by artist Andy McKeown. More facetted scrambled shapes to further enhance what was happening musically.

"The styles and pigeon hole genres vary from track to track. Whilst this album comprises two popular pieces from the current Glowpeople set, Tangy Fruit Shoot and Algebra, the rest of this largely instrumental album is composed of purely off-the-cuff improvisations, performed together in the studio. Bouncing ideas, building grooves and morphing melodies. Well take you with us into dark corners of jazzy blues, down into a deep cavern of electronic dub and out into colourful pulsating forests of psychedelic noise.

Light and shade – Fizzy and sweet. Theres even poetry."

REVIEW
Glowpeople is a loose, psychedelic instumental collective from England formed in 2010. I have reviewed their two previous albums and got this third one months ago but been too busy to write about it until now. Sorry! The band has been playing around the U.K. alternative festival circuit (Unorthodox Paradox, Onboard the Craft, Aberjazz, Kozfest, Hastrek...) and you can definitively sense the free festival spirit of the 70s and 80s in their vibe. Their music is mostly free and improvised, spacey, jazzy, funky, floating and partly electronic. The lineup features: Chriss Hill: trumpet & guitar, Robot: bass guitar, Nick Raybould: drums & percussion and Chriss Cordwell: keyboards, bleeps & loops. The closest comparisons I can think of are Ozric Tentacles, Gong, The Orb and a few others but the Glowpeople do have a sound and style of their own I guess.

This 49-minute CD/download has nine tracks ranging in length from just over two minutes to over eight minutes. Most of the stuff is instrumental, but there are also some manipulated human voice like on the excellent and groovy "Electronique Blue". At times they go pretty far into the head country (just check out the hallucinatory "Algebra" and "Ground Zero", for example!), but usually they are rather listener-friendly and enjoyable. Probably not radio-friendly, though... So quite far away from mainstream, thank God. There are some dub elements in there as well, so their music should please a rather large group of the different kinds of mind explorers out there. I do like them! Worth checking out. "
